A Feminist Perspective on Gett Refusal
Date: | Thursday, October 5, 2023 |
Time: | 12:00 - 1:00 PM |
Description: | A gett is a document in Jewish law which effectuates a divorce between a Jewish couple. Husbands must give a gett to his wife to release her from the marriage and allow her to see other men. Some husbands refuse to provide their wife a gett unless he receives compensation from her family. Professor Orit Gan, a professor at Bar-Ilan University in Israel argues that getts should be inalienable. Please join us to hear Professor Gan on this topic and answer questions on feminism in the law. |
