Winston-Salem LGBTQ Pride Festival

Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Time: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Description: Wake Forest School of Law's OUTLaw is working with the Campaign for
Southern Equality to provide a free Health Care Power of Attorney
workshop at Winston-Salem Pride on Oct. 18. From 12 p.m.- 4 p.m.,
volunteer attorneys and law students will assist community members in
filling out a Health Care Power of Attorney document, and volunteer
notaries will be present to notarize the documents.
Health Care Powers of Attorney allow individuals to name the
person who will make their health care decisions if they are ever
incapacitated. These documents are particularly important in the LGBT
community, where immediate family members might not be supportive,
spouses might not be recognized by the state of North Carolina, or
transgender issues might not be respected by someone's next of kin.
Students and others volunteering are also invited to join OUTLaw at a post-Pride mixer with the Divinity School.
