Pro Bono Education Justice Project Interest Meeting

Date: Tuesday, October 20, 2015
Time: 12:00 - 12:50 PM
Description: Please join us for an informational session about two new exciting pro bono projects centered around Educational Advocacy. The first opportunity is the Education Justice Project, a partnership with Legal Aid North Carolina and Kilpatrick Townsend, focused on ensuring that students from low-income families have access to education. Students will partner with attorneys to advocate for the educational rights of students with disabilities and/or students who have received excessively punitive suspensions. The second opportunity is the Educational Surrogate Project, a collaborate effort with Department of Social Services, local attorneys and Wake Forest Law. Law students will be trained to act as "surrogate parents" for students with disabilities to ensure that these students are provided with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), as required by law. A non-pizza lunch will be provided.
